Both of these reports were compiled by local reporters - Tony Baker and Kevin Rowntree worked for BBC Newcastle and Tyne Tees respectively (both very highly respected and senior journalists for the two rivals), and were presumably straight dubs of what went out locally as well.

Couldn’t really see the large logo 47 but could have been 489 which was on 1G41 0810:Hull to Kings Cross Rugby League special probably at Stoke around 0955ish. The 5 47s were on 0B01 which was Kings across area bound code and were 222,299, 374, 319 and 221. They passed Newark from Doncaster directions at 1105. Don’t recognise any of the 31 hauled passenger trains they must have gone off at Grantham I guess

Thanks for posting this video. I only just 8 years old when I saw this set at Grantham and no one believed me that Class 317's operated into Grantham. Granted this was not a revenue earning service but they were used on trialing the OHLE that was freshly installed on the ECML at the time. BR used these units regularly between Peterborough and London at the time from new up until the Class 387's and Class 700's took them over.

I used to go train spotting here more than 60 years ago. On the Melton Mowbray (west) side there were water troughs. On the east side there was a signal box and water tanks. The loop line, seen in the distance towards Melton, used to extend under the bridge and there was a water crane connected from the tanks. Trains often stopped there to fill their tenders.

I would love to know what camera this was filmed with. Looks like VHS, but the camera doesn't look like it has a CCD chip in it - hence the muted colours and colour bleeding. One of the first video cameras I ever used in school didn't - it wasn't a camcorder (camera/recorder in one) it was a camera with a separate recorder. The school did have a Panasonic M10 camcorder, which did have a CCD chip, and we only used the old camera when the camcorder wasn't available.
